Katie Doyle, Creative Steps Accredited Play Therapist, Dublin|Kildare

My early passion for caring and working with children inspired me to undertake a degree in early childhood education. After nurturing and supporting many children through their early learning and development, my desire for helping children led me back to further education. I studied and qualified as a Play Therapist after which I successfully set up Creative Steps Play Therapy with the aim of offering private sessions to support children and young people in Dublin & Kildare.

Children encounter many stresses, anxieties and traumas affecting their everyday lives and functioning. The rising demands of society, pressure from school and social stresses are having a huge impact on our children.

Children often struggle to understand and share these concerns with others. Promoting, helping and supporting children's mental health and wellbeing is more important now than ever. I am dedicated to creating a warm safe therapeutic environment for children to explore these presenting challenges. I endeavour to meet the child at their level and communicate through this medium of play, which they know best.

As a therapist I primarily take a non-directive approach to support and empower children in their process of dealing with and confronting their personal challenges. Where necessary I can use more directive approaches to support the child through his/her process.  As all children are unique and their challenges varied, I take the time to understand their individual situation and adapt my approach accordingly to provide the best support for the child. Through the use of mediums such as puppets, books, toys, art and sand the child is provided with an opportunity to explore themselves with my support and guidance as therapist.

My gentle, mindful and considerate nature facilitates the development of a trusting therapeutic relationship, reassuring the child and forming the basis for the child’s self-growth and healing.

My ultimate goal is to provide the child with the tools and ability to understand their emotions and develop awareness of themselves. I aim to empower the child to recognise their individuality, develop their self-confidence, self-worth and excel in their personal growth.
